The agriculture industry is vital for producing the food products necessary for global populations to survive and thrive. However, unsustainable farming practices can severely damage ecosystems, highlighting the need for efficient and well-managed farming techniques. ISO standards provide excellent guidance for sustainable farmland operations, ensuring quality and safety across the supply chain.
How does ISO certification help you stand out in the agriculture industry?
ISO certification represents international standards that require continuous improvement and adherence to best practices. For agricultural businesses, certification can showcase a commitment to high-quality, safe, and sustainable farming practices. It helps you prove to customers, partners, and regulatory bodies that you’re trustworthy and dedicated to producing food and agricultural products that meet global safety and quality standards.
With growing concerns about food safety and environmental responsibility, ISO certification can position your business as a leader in the field. It signals that you’re not only compliant but proactive about maintaining rigorous standards, setting you apart from competitors.
Which ISO standards are best for the Agriculture industry?
The farming sector benefits from various ISO standards, each offering unique advantages:
ISO 14001: Environmental Management System
ISO 14001 defines principles for developing and maintaining effective environmental management strategies, promoting practices that reduce environmental impact and ensure legal compliance in the agriculture sector.
ISO 9001: Quality Management System
ISO 9001 promotes successful agricultural operations in the food production chain by ensuring food safety through best practices for quality management, sampling, product specifications, and requirements for packaging, transportation, and storage.
ISO 45001: Occupational Health & Safety Standard
ISO 45001 helps organisations reduce hazardous factors, protecting customers, employees, and the general public from potential accidents, injuries, and diseases.

The three steps to getting ISO certification
Optional gap analysis
This is an optional preliminary step offered by Citation Certification to evaluate your existing systems and identify any faults that you need to correct.
We perform this analysis before beginning the three-stage certification process to allow you time to prepare and correct any issues that could prevent you from getting certified. Alternatively, you can do the gap analysis yourself by downloading this free resource pack.
Step one: Stage 1 Audit
Evaluating your management system documentation, from the policies to the processes, review records, scope and context, and system implementation.
Step two: Stage 2 Audit
Then, we’ll verify that all the documented requirements are properly implemented across the entire business. One of our assessors will participate in discussions with key stakeholders from your company remotely to establish if the requirements have been properly implemented.
Step three: certification
When the stage 2 assessment is complete, we’ll issue you a ‘Statement of Certification’ that confirms your e-commerce company is compliant with the international ISO standard.
The certification is valid for three years, starting from the date of issue, but you’ll need to go through surveillance assessments at least once every 12 months to maintain it.
